Paul Mannes ’55

Paul Mannes ’55 died January 20 in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Paul came to Dartmouth from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C. He majored in philosophy and comparative literature and served as an associate editor of the Jack-O-Lantern. Paul was president of Chi Phi and was also a member of Green Key and the Winter Carnival directorate. After completing his ROTC obligations, Paul earned his law degree at Georgetown University. He served as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., and as an associate corporate counsel. Paul was elected president of the Montgomery Bar Association and was appointed as a bankruptcy judge. He also served as president of the National Bankruptcy Judges Association. Paul’s alumni activities included the presidency of the Dartmouth Club of Washington D.C. and the Club Officers Association. Paul received the Class of 1955 Award in 2001 for his service to the College and his profession. He is survived by his wife, Karen, son Joe ’80 (and wife Tori), son Andrew, Th’83 (and wife Julie ’86) and son George ’84 (and wife Margot), nine grandchildren (including Philip ’16, who arranged a January 31 memorial service in Hanover), brother John and sister-in-law Nancy.
