Paul H. Johnston ’48

Paul H. Johnston ’48 of Indianapolis, Indiana, died October 7, 2012. He served in the US Army Counter Intelligence Corps and graduated from Dartmouth in 1948 and Indiana University School of Law in 1955. He was a prosecuting attorney from 1958 to 1962 and subsequently a judge for 20 years. He was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana Gov. Evan Bayh in 1990. Paul was the Dartmouth club secretary from 1957 to 1960. Paul married Rita Gabrielle Michaud in 1950. They lived in Zionsville, Indiana, from 1957 until 1990, when they moved to Peaks Island, Maine, and then returned to Indianapolis in 2007. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church on Peaks Island and St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church in Zionsville. He was an Eagle Scout, active in the Boy Scouts of America much of his life and helped found Troop 358 in Zionsville. Paul is survived by his children Paul and wife Donna, Henry and wife Christina, Andrew, Mark and wife Kathleen, Christopher and wife Cathie, Gregory, and Claudia and husband John; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased in 2008 by his wife, Rita, and his sister Barbara.
