James F. Valentine ’63 died in Atlanta on September 27, 2025, 12 days after his namesake great-grandson was born. Jim was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and his family moved to Atlanta, where Jim attended North Fulton High School. There he was class president, center of the football team, and part of the 440-yard relay state champions. Jim attended Dartmouth on a Lockheed Martin scholarship, served as class president his senior year, and was a member of Casque & Gauntlet, Green Key, Palaeopitus (chairman) and Sigma Alpha Epsilon (rush chairman). In 1961 Jim married his high school sweetheart, Pam. He majored in economics and participated in crew and track and was lead singer in a rock and roll band. He later served the College as an admissions and Alumni Fund volunteer and officer of the Georgia Regional Club. After Dartmouth Jim joined Robinson-Humphrey, a leading broker in the Southeast, where he worked as a financial planner and director of the consulting group when the company was acquired by American Express. He retired in 1997 after 33 years and traveled the world with Pam. He was a board member of the Georgia Association of Financial Planners and the Georgia Ornithological Foundation. Jim was predeceased by Pam. He is survived by three children, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
