Eugene Jeffrey Smith ’49 died on July 13, 2016, in Newbury, Massachusetts, where he lived. Gene came to Dartmouth from Hebron (Maine) Academy. He earned his master’s in journalism at Columbia and worked as a business reporter for The Herald-Tribune, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. Gene is survived by sons Luke ’88 and Eric and daughter Brooke.
