Norman Flakin ’47

Norman Flakin ’47 died in Orlando, Florida, on April 23, 2015. He was born on July 31, 1926, in Brooklyn and attended Brooklyn Technical High School. He was assigned to Dartmouth in the V-12 program, and joined Casque & Gauntlet and the Dartmouth Engineering Society and played football, basketball and golf. He graduated from Thayer School in 1948. He worked in Syosset, New York, for the Long Island Lighting Co., where he became purchasing manager. He earned an M.A. in management engineering from the C.W. Post branch of Long Island University in 1973. He served as a Dartmouth club secretary in 1957 and as an Alumni Fund volunteer from 1985 to 1988. He retired to Orlando, where he enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge and Elderhostel trips. He is survived by his wife and three children.
