John B. Stimson , M.D., died July 23 at the University of Washington Medical Center after a year-long battle with cancer. John was born in Boston and spent most of his life in the Pacific Northwest. He graduated from Bellevue High School, Dartmouth, and University of Washington Medical School, where he completed his residency in internal medicine and was chief resident. He spent a 35-year career at the Optum Care Polyclinic in Seattle, where he was known as a good listener who cared deeply for his patients. He was on the clinical faculty at the University of Washington Medical School, coordinated the medicine grand rounds at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, and served as a physician for retired Seattle firefighters. John served on the polyclinic’s board of directors and chaired the physician care network. An Eagle Scout, John spent his personal time outdoors, hiking, sailing, birdwatching, and gardening. He loved the art and science of wine and wine making and studied its many aspects. He played the Irish fiddle, was an avid reader, and loved puzzles. He is survived by Kay, his wife for 43 years, son Joel, daughter Claire, and sister Barbara.
