Robert Michael Jordan passed away October 18, 2024, surrounded by family at home in Cloverdale, California, following a seven-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Bob’s life was full of family, friends, meaningful work, adventures, travel, and especially music, whether jazz, blues, or opera. He was known for his intelligence, compassion, wit, generosity, and kindness. Bob was born and raised in Connecticut and came to Dartmouth from Wilton High School. He majored in government and completed a foreign study program at the University of Salamanca, Spain. After graduation he joined the Peace Corps and spent two years in Bogota, Colombia, where community organizing and development work were gratifying and exciting. Returning to the States in 1971, he landed at a communal apple farm in Yorkville, California, and worked for California Human Development in Santa Rosa for 30 years. He helped thousands of immigrants and farm workers gain technical and vocational skills. He also taught conversational Spanish for 27 semesters at Mendocino College. In 1995 the family moved to Cloverdale, where he served for 13 years on the planning commission, was a docent at the history museum, and helped with the food pantry. Bob loved music and dancing and met his future wife, Jennifer, in 1985 dancing under the moonlight in Cozumel during a scuba diving trip. They traveled extensively before he became ill. Bob is survived by Jennifer, son Andrew, and brother Dick.
