John Stuart Vaughan ’55
John Stuart Vaughan ’55 passed away on May 16 in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Born in Buffalo, New York, John earned his A.B at Dartmouth and went on to collect a B.S. from the Cornell School of Hotel Administration. After serving in the U. S. Army, he worked in various aspects of hospital food service and management before creating his own consulting firm and then buying a company that anchored his family in the Philadelphia area. As CEO he grew the business by acquiring new clients in retirement facilities, schools, and military operations, including West Point and the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. A dedicated elder of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, John’s true passion was for its outreach and mission councils. This included fieldwork in Mexico, leadership of several cleanup teams after Hurricane Katrina, and involvement with urban-suburban ministries. He also served as a commissioner to the Philadelphia Presbytery. John credited a broad perspective gained during his Dartmouth years and “a growing faith in God’s plan for our lives” with providing stability for himself and his family in a turbulent world. An active sailor on the Chesapeake, he travelled widely in the United States and abroad. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ann, one sister, three daughters, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
