N. Peter Nieman ’57

N. Peter Nieman ’57, a 54-year resident of San Mateo, California, passed away in Redwood City, California, on February 14, 2014. During several decades preceding his death Peter fought and survived several serious health issues “with a strong spirit, devout faith and a wry sense of humor,” according to his family. Peter grew up mostly in the Chicago area, attending Evanston Township High School, before moving to Portland, Oregon, where he graduated from Lincoln High School. At Dartmouth Peter majored in economics and belonged to Alpha Delta Phi, varsity crew, Dartmouth Outing Club and the rowing club. He graduated from the Amos Tuck School in 1960. Peter had a long career in finance with several companies in the San Francisco area. He joined Guittard Chocolate Co. as chief financial officer in 1976 and worked there until his retirement. He was very active in the community and at St. Bartholomew’s Church in San Mateo. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret, daughter Susanna, son Peter and four grandchildren.
