Myron Robert Herrick ’48

Myron Robert Herrick ’48 died of a heart attack in California on February 13. Bob came to Dartmouth in June 1944 and completed two semesters before entering the Navy, where he served as a disbursing storekeeper. Returning to the campus in 1946, he joined Phi Delta Theta; was active in the Glee Club, Jack-O-Lantern and Dartmouth Players; and graduated as an economics major. He then returned to the family mushroom business in Niles, Michigan, where he remained until 1960, when he moved to La Jolla, California, and worked for 20 years in food distribution. In 1980, after earning chartered life underwriter and chartered financial consultant designations from the American College, he became a life and health insurance broker, a career he enjoyed until his retirement in 2005. He was a past president of the Rotary Club of La Jolla and a member of the Methodist Church and the Dartmouth Club of San Diego. Bob was a very loyal Dartmouth alumnus, serving for many years as class secretary, newsletter editor and agent. He often crossed the country to attend class reunions. He married Jane Hedges in 1948. They divorced in 1968. In 1973 he married Margaret Dillinger, who survives him, as do three daughters and five grandchildren.
