Murray Sams Jr. ’45

Murray Sams Jr. ’45, Esq., of Deland, Florida, died August 5 in Hollywood, Florida. He came to Dartmouth from Bowes Military Academy. Murray was in Beta Theta Pi at Dartmouth. In WW II Murray served as a Navy pilot and graduated from John B. Stetson College of Law in March 1949. He was appointed as a special assistant attorney general and began practicing law in Tallahassee, Florida, in April 1949. He went into private practice from 1952 to 1954 and in 1954 opened his own law firm, Sams, Anderson, Alper & Spencer in Miami. He became senior member of that firm and was a nationally known trial attorney for 50 years. He was a member of numerous legal associations and a friend to many lawyers. Murray was a frequent author and lecturer for the American Bar Association’s continuing legal education program, appearing at many university programs domestically and abroad. He is predeceased by son Murray III. He is survived by his wife, Pietrina, and eight children, including Patrick ’83.
