Miles Lew Lasser ’43
Miles Lew Lasser ’43, Tu’44, died July 15, 2014, at his home in Jamestown, New York. A native of Jamestown, he graduated from the Jamestown High School. At Dartmouth Miles was a member of Green Key, intramural executive chairman and attended Tuck School. During the war he served as a lieutenant in the Navy on the PCE-881 patrol craft escort ship in the Pacific. After discharge Miles went to Colombia University law school and spent his entire legal career with BDO Seidman, a top-tier accounting and auditing firm, becoming managing partner for the Jamestown office. His cousin and classmate, Bill Seidman, was his partner. Miles retired in 1985. He served a term as chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), as well as on numerous committees of the New York State Society of CPAs. He also served as a board member and director of the Ralph C. Sheldon Foundation and as a board member of the Wakefield Trust in Minneapolis. Miles was involved in innumerable local and statewide civic organizations, ranging from Jamestown city council, the Red Cross, YMCA and local chamber of commerce, and service as trustee of the State University of New York, trustee of the Jamestown Community College and cofounder of the Jamestown NAACP. Miles was an accomplished piano player, and knowledgeable about musical history, especially jazz. Miles was predeceased by his wife, Gloria, in 2013 and son David in 1950. He is survived by children Elizabeth, Andrew and Adam; their spouses; and five grandchildren.
