Melvin Anton Friberg ’44

Melvin Anton Friberg ’44 of Barre, Vermont, died at the Central Vermont Medical Center on May 15, 2009, after a two-year struggle with a blood disorder. He graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre in 1940. At Dartmouth he was a member of Theta Delta Chi and served the College as club president. He was a first lieutenant and pilot of B-24 Liberator bombers in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He successfully flew 15 night missions over Germany and France. For more than 50 years he worked in the granite industry, was manager and president of Anderson-Friberg Co. Inc. He was involved with many boards and director of many organizations in Vermont. He enjoyed a good life skiing, golfing, socializing and being with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Merilyn; children Peter ’73, Nancy, Tu’77, and Carolyn; son-in-law Robert Pope, Tu’77; and granddaughter Lizzy Pope ’05.
