Louis Wiederhold III ’45

Louis Wiederhold III ’45, M.D., of Francestown, New Hampshire, died September 16, 2012, in Bar Harbor, Maine. He attended the William Penn Charter School, graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth and received his M.D. from Pennsylvania Medical School in 1950. During WW II he was a conscientious objector with the American Friends Service Committee. He married Elizabeth Keasbey Plummer in 1949 and in 1952 started a family practice in Antrim, New Hampshire, retiring in 1992. A true country doctor, he mentored many students in that type of practice and in the research he was conducting in cardiology, diabetes and anesthesiology as chief of medicine at the Monadnock Community Hospital. He served on the Francestown school board, the Academy of Family Physicians, the Crotched Mountain ski patrol and the Granite State Amateur Radio Association. Lou enjoyed sailing, skiing, canoeing, camping and hiking with family and friends when he had time. He enjoyed spending summers in Frenchman Bay, Maine. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betsy, four daughters and three grandchildren.
