Lewis “Lars” Lofgren ’60
Lewis “Lars” Lofgren ’60, a native and long-time resident of Oak Park, Illinois, died on April 24, 2014, with Mary, his wife of 54 years, by his side. Most recently Lars and Mary split their time between Green Lake, Wisconsin, and Fountain Hills, Arizona. After graduating from River Forest High School in Oak Park, Lars brought his strong Midwestern character to Dartmouth. That he pledged Beta Theta Pi was no doubt influenced by that fraternity’s significant tilt to the Midwest. At Dartmouth Lars majored in English. He devoted his professional career to the founding and development of Chicago’s ADE Inc. His passion for spirituality and learning drove his unending support of the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago and Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. He loved life, golf, cocktail hour and good conversation. Lars is survived by Mary; children Kurt (and wife Eva), Jessica (and husband Jon), Jason (and wife Peggy), Katherine (and husband Kurt) and Jacob (and wife Jenny); siblings Jane (and husband Henry) and Charles (and wife Mary); grandchildren Mark, Erika, Mary Katherine, Jakob, Isaac, Isabelle, Lewis, Abigail, Brian, Lucy, Chelsea, Jonathan, Tregg, JayIen, Max and Trevor; and stepgrandchildren Drew, Elise, David, Tyler and Brooke. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary Lofgren, and grandson Nathan. A memorial service was held at Fourth Presbyterian Church on May 3. Memorial contributions may be made to Fourth Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Chestnut St., Chicago, IL 60611, or Lawrence University (Lofgren Scholarship Fund), 711 E. Boldt Way, Appleton, WI 54911.
