Lane Woodworth “Woody’ Goss ’55
Lane Woodworth “Woody’ Goss ’55 died on May 6. He is survived by sons Charles ’84, Philip ’89 and Edward, Tu’86. His wife, Nancy, passed away in 2007. Woody entered Dartmouth from Worcester Academy in Massachusetts. He majored in English and was president of the Glee Club. He was a member of Theta Delta Chi. After Dartmouth Woody served in the Army and received an M.B.A. from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. Goss joined Chemical Bank in New York City and then concluded his banking career with State Street Bank and Trust Co. in Boston. Woody had a lifelong commitment to the College. He served on the committee for the arts from 1977 to 1982. He was also a special gifts volunteer and president of his class from 2000 to 2005. The College recognized Woody as President of the Year in 2005. In 2006 he received the Class of 1955 Award from his classmates. Goss also served as head class agent from 2005 until his passing. Woody and his team set a record of giving for a 6oth reunion class. In addition to his efforts on behalf of Dartmouth, Woody served as a trustee of many charities with a focus on the preservation of the historical heritage of America, including the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati and the American Antiquarian Society.
