Kenneth Thriving Young Jr. ’48

Kenneth Thriving Young Jr. ’48 died in Valrico, Florida, on August 12, 2009. He came on campus from Riverdale (New York) Military Academy and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was one of our earliest retirees (in 1961) from his Outdoor Garden Supply business on Long Island. Moving to Ohio he started, built and sold another business and played enough golf to be inducted into the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame. To be able to play golf all year he moved to Florida in 1968, organized Southwest Florida Senior Golf and played in tournaments 52 weeks a year. Ken claimed to have attended all Dartmouth football games for 30 years, was class president in 1967-68 and campaign co-chairman of our record-breaking 50th reunion gift to the College. He is survived by his wife, Elinor, and children Barbara and Thomas.
