Julian S. Goldberg ’51

Julian S. Goldberg ’51 died on July 22, 2015. He was a lifelong resident of Louisville, Kentucky, where he was widely known and admired for his quirky sense of humor and his many acts of kindness. “Geeb” was an institution on Main Street in Louisville, where he owned and operated G&K Shoe Co., a wholesale shoe distributor founded by his father almost a century ago. He loved the business, overseeing it until the end of his life. At shoe conventions he sometimes appeared wearing a pair of shoes on the wrong feet, exclaiming, “These shoes are killing me!” When asked whether G&K sold camouflage clothing, he replied, “Yes, but I can’t find it.” Geeb loved Dartmouth. As an undergraduate he was a history major and a member of Pi Lambda Phi, the Interfraternity Council and Dartmouth Outing Club. Following graduation he earned an M.B.A. at the University of Michigan and served two years in the U.S. Army as a sergeant before returning to his Kentucky roots. Geeb’s wife, Carol, died in 1986. He is survived by two children, three grandchildren and longtime partner Rosalind.
