Joseph Jerome Phifer ’62

Joseph Jerome Phifer ’62 of Hollywood, Florida, died on June 14, 2012. Jerry was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, and raised in North Miami, Florida. He graduated from North Miami High School, where he was an active athlete. At Dartmouth he was a geography major. Jerry also played rugby for three years and was an active member of the Dartmouth Outing Club, Phi Gamma Delta and Army ROTC. Following graduation at Dartmouth he also found time to earn an M.B.A. at Columbia in 1964 and served two years of active military service in Italy before mustering out with the rank of captain in the artillery. As a civilian Jerry began his business career in 1968 as a securities broker and worked his way to the position of senior vice president at Lehman Brothers in New York City. By 1986 Jerry chose to become a real estate investor, in which capacity he continued until his death. Jerry and Kerstin Molin were married in Hanover two days before graduation in 1962. She predeceased him in 2003. Jerry is survived by children Monica, Jerome Scott and Jerome Keith; eight grandchildren; and his loving partner Carolina.
