John P. Warwick ’48

John P. Warwick ’48 died on June 6 in New York City. John was born and raised in New Rochelle, New York, and served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II before graduating in 1948 from Dartmouth, where he was a member of Chi Gamma Epsilon/Kappa Sigma. He dedicated 42 years of his life building one of New York City’s most prominent advertising agencies, which was started in 1939 as Warwick & Ledger and changed to Warwick Advertising and finally Warwick, Baker, O’Neill. John served as chairman and CEO for 33 years and retired in 1991. Warwick was a member of the Alliance International partnership of independent agencies that serviced clients with international needs and had more than 300 employees at its height in New York City, Paris, London, Frankfurt and Brussels offices. He also believed strongly in using the agency’s talents to engage in pro bono public service and served on the board of the Association of American Advertising Agencies. His hobbies included golf and American history. John was devoted to his wife of 53 years, Janet, and their children, Brian and Jennifer. He served as a mentor to his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and business associates by offering sound advice and generosity. This was the essence of his spirit
