John Merritt Shiver ’66

John Merritt Shiver ’66 passed away at Archbold Living-Cairo, in Cairo, Georgia, on May 24. John was born in Miami and grew up in Americus, Georgia, where he lettered in football and basketball at Americus High School. After Dartmouth he graduated from the University of Georgia and went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law. John was an attorney in Elberton, Georgia, for decades before moving to Cairo. He was a self-taught tennis player who enjoyed tournaments across the state as well as an avid hunter and fisherman, proudly posting photos of his catches on Facebook. He is survived by daughter Blair, son Kevin, grandchildren Amelia and Zachary, brother David, and niece Amanda. Memorials may be made in John’s memory to the Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation at www.hpcfoundation.org.
