John A. McWilliam ’52

John A. McWilliam ’52 of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on April 27 in his home. He was born in Toledo, prepared for college at DeVilbiss High School in Toledo and graduated from Dartmouth with a history degree. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He received his J.D. from the University of Toledo Law School. After graduation from law school he began a 33-year career at the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority, working first as the staff attorney for 10 years and moving up to general manager and president of the port authority until retiring in 1991. He was past president of the American Association of Port Authorities and an active member of the Toledo Rotary Club. After retirement he and his wife wintered in Palm Springs, California, where he was a member of Desert Princess Country Club. They continued to spend summers in Toledo, where he was a member of Highland Meadows Golf Club. John was senior club champion at both Highland Meadows Golf Club and Catawba Island Club. He had six holes-in-one and regularly shot his age starting at 69 years old. John also took jazz piano lessons and played piano regularly. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, whom he married in April 1953 and with whom he recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are children Ann, John and Amy, three granddaughters and his sister.
