John L. Johnson ’57

John L. Johnson ’57 passed away in Cary, North Carolina, on September 29, 2015. He fought an eight-year battle with cancer. He had settled in North Carolina after moving from Andover, Massachusetts, in 1998. Jack came to Dartmouth from Hempstead (New York) High School. At Dartmouth Jack majored in chemistry and belonged to the Dartmouth College Athletic Council, Christian Union and DOC. He went on to earn a master’s in chemical engineering from Cornell in 1959. Jack had a successful career as a chemical engineer and later as a stockbroker and insurance agent. He was strong in his faith and was active in the Baptist church. In Massachusetts he was very active as a Little League baseball coach. An avid sports fan, he was a passionate follower of the PGA Tour golf, Duke Blue Devils basketball, March Madness and the New England Patriots. Jack is survived by his wife, Louise, three children and four grandchildren.
