John J. Zimmerman ’47

John J. Zimmerman ’47 died on January 6 at his home in Keene, New Hampshire. He was born in Keene on February 14, 1926, and attended Keene High School. He was assigned to Dartmouth in the Navy V-12 unit, majored in government and joined Sigma Phi Epsilon. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946, including service onboard the aircraft carrier USS Leyte. He went on to graduate with an L.L.B. from Boston University Law School in 1951. He worked for the Upton law firm in Concord, New Hampshire, from 1951 to 1957. He served as assistant attorney general from 1957 to 1960. In 1960 he joined the firm of Faulker, Plaut, Hanna and Zimmerman in Keene, where he remained until 1993. He served as Cheshire County attorney from 1961 to 1964. He was a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 819 for 58 years, and had served as conferring officer since 1965. He also served as a member of the board of directors of the Savings Bank of Walpole and as an Alumni Fund volunteer from 1990 to 2002. He is survived by three children.
