John E. Rogers Jr. ’50

John E. Rogers Jr. ’50 of Houston, Texas, died on January 20 at home, where he lived with his wife of 55 years, Katie. While at Dartmouth he was a member of the Glee Club and Sigma Nu. John left the College in his junior year. Subsequently he attended and graduated from the University of Denver in 1953 with a B.S. in chemistry. He married Kathryn Ann O’Brien in 1955 and together they had five children, four of whom survive him. For 32 years he worked in the petroleum industry for Texaco before retiring in 1984. Although John did not graduate from Dartmouth, he wrote in the class of 1950’s 50th yearbook as follows: “The mystique of the Dartmouth experience, although abbreviated, still lingers. And the granite of New Hampshire today remains in my muscles and my brain.”
