John D. Strong Jr. ’57

John D. Strong Jr. ’57 passed away unexpectedly at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on May 18, 2015. John came to Dartmouth from Hingham, Massachusetts, and the Belmont Hill School in 1953. At Dartmouth he majored in economics and was a member of Psi Upsilon, Dragon, Interdormitory Committee and Army ROTC. He also played varsity hockey for four years. After a brief tour in the U.S. Army, John received a master’s in business administration from Harvard in 1961. John had a long career in banking. He served as a vice president at Citicorp in New York for many years and as executive vice president of the Fourth National Bank of Tulsa until he retired. John was one of the founding trustees of the Grace and Franklin Bensen Foundation until his death. He also served on many boards, including the Tulsa Boys’ Home, Tulsa Opera, American Red Cross, and the local Family and Children’s Services arts and humanities council. John is survived by his wife, Barbara, two sons, several grandchildren, three siblings and many nieces and nephews.
