James C. Knoepfler ’43
James C. Knoepfler ’43 died May 27, 2010, at his home in Sioux City, Iowa. Jim grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School where he was a member of the student forum, class president, member of the National Honorary Society and active on the school paper and in the debating society. At Dartmouth he was a member of the Interfraternity Council and attended Tuck School. Like most of the class he graduated in December 1942 and then on to the Harvard Navy Supply School. He served two years as an officer on the USS Wilson in the South Pacific. After the war he studied at the University of Iowa, received a law degree and opened an office in Charles City, Iowa. In the early 1950s he married Barbara Allen. In 1952 he became general manager of Kidder, Knoepfler Co. Inc., a Chevrolet dealership in Sioux City. Jim was on the board of Goodwill Industries, a director of the First Federal Savings Bank and served on various other boards and committees of the First Congregational Church of Christ. He received the Key Way Award from the Sioux City Rotary Club—“A high point of my life.” Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara, children Charles, William, Jim and Katherine and six grandchildren.
