Jack N. Hodgson ’60

Jack N. Hodgson ’60 died October 30, 2014, surrounded by his family. Jack spent most of his early years in Ottawa, Canada, where his father was stationed as the American Air attaché to Canada. He passed his teen years in Hanover, attending Hanover High and Deerfield Academy. Jack is survived by Barbara, his wife of 53 years, children Susan, Wendy and Gregor and grandchildren Bill, Seamus, Rowan, Eli, Lindsay and Jaclyn. At Dartmouth Jack majored in economics and was a brother in Alpha Chi Rho. His many activities included freshman hockey, varsity lacrosse, Dartmouth Christian Union, Dartmouth Outing Club, Army ROTC, ski patrol and the Storm Kings hockey program, which he managed and helped to revive. After graduating Jack entered Stanford Business School, where he met Barbara McGregor. They were married in 1961. After earning his M.B.A. Jack served two years in the U.S. Army. Upon completing his service he lived briefly in Milwaukee and Los Angeles before taking his family to Seattle to work for Western International Hotels as its first director of development. In 1972 he started the Jack N. Hodgson Co., specializing in the development and marketing of hotels and resorts. Jack had a great love of the outdoors and embraced the Pacific Northwest. He enjoyed boating Vancouver’s inner passage, skiing, running marathons, playing golf and fly fishing. Team sports were another of his passions, and he excelled in hockey and lacrosse. Believing strongly in the value of youth sports, Jack started the lacrosse program at Bellevue High School in Seattle.
