Harrington Kerfoot Mason ’57

Harrington Kerfoot Mason ’57 passed away in Omaha, Nebraska, on September 7, 2015. “Hanny” and his wife, Carrie, moved to Omaha from Des Moines, Iowa, in 2013. He suffered a major stroke in July of 2014. Hanny grew up in Winnetka, Illinois, and came to Dartmouth from the New Trier School. At Dartmouth he majored in economics and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi, Dartmouth Outing Club and Sphinx. He earned his M.B.A. from the University of Michigan. Following service in the U.S. Marine Corps, Hanny held management positions with Frye Copy Systems and Touche, Ross and Co. He moved to Des Moines and in 1972 formed Economy Data Products, a successful national manufacturer. Hanny sold the company in 1999 and in 2005 opened Hanny’s of Adel, a bakery and restaurant—and the first Internet café in Adel, Iowa. He also began a new company, Walnut Creek Realty, as his entrepreneurial spirit remained strong. Hanny was very active in civic and industry organizations through the years. He enjoyed giving back to his community and established the Kerfoot/Mason Scholarship through the Iowa Foundation. Hanny was very active in Dartmouth affairs, serving as a class officer, alumni councilor, Alumni Fund volunteer and reunion committee member and in numerous other activities in support of the College. Hanny leaves Carrie, three children, three stepchildren and 15 grandchildren.
