Gordon H. Hood ’50
Gordon H. Hood ’50, only days after receiving the Class of 1950 Award at his 60th reunion, died on June 20, 2010, following a brief hospitalization near his home in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. While at Dartmouth he majored in economics and was a member of Theta Delta Chi, where he was known as “the human backboard” at the ping-pong table. It was extremely difficult to get a ball past him. For a short while before enrolling at the University of Cincinnati Law School, he worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass. Following graduation from law school in 1953 Gordon practiced as an associate of a Cincinnati, Ohio, firm in both Ohio and Kentucky before becoming a partner in the firm of Heckerman and Hood, which later merged with the Cincinnati firm of Strauss & Troy, where he remained a partner until 1998, when he became “of counsel.” While conducting a successful law practice Gordie represented the Beechwood (Kentucky) Board of Education, was a member of the Kentucky Council of Higher Education, director of the Kentucky Governor Scholars Program, board member of Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati Inc., board member of PNC Bank and a vestryman at Trinity Episcopal Church in Covington, Kentucky. In 2005 Gordon suffered a quite severe stroke while he and JoAnn were wintering at their waterfront condominium in Vero Beach, Florida. He leaves his high school sweetheart, JoAnn, whom he married in 1951, and children Gordon Jr. (“Hub”), Kathleen, Brad and Denise and 10 grandchildren.
