George Vannett Robertson III ’66

George Vannett Robertson III ’66, a retired financial analyst, avid fly fisherman, decorated marksman and statistician, died October 5, 2016, of postsurgical complications. The son of George and Ruth Robertson Jr., a civil engineer and homemaker, respectively, Tony grew up in Springfield, Pennsylvania. He married Canby Smith in 1970. Tony began his career as an engineer and went on to analyze stocks for Alex. Brown & Sons of Baltimore and Robertson Stephens, a San Francisco-based boutique investment bank that focused primarily on technology companies. Tony lived his life with enthusiasm. He threw himself into every hobby he found, from fishing and restoring English cars, to mastering chess and Rubik’s cubes. He was dedicated to furthering minority education and developed a website to publicize his research about the subject. Tony is survived by his wife, Canby; children Jonathan, Kathryn and Emilie; grandchildren Potter, Henry, and Cecilia; and sister Barbara. Tony’s passion was mentoring young F-class shooters. Contributions in Tony’s name may be sent to Bridgeville Rifle & Pistol Club, Attn: Jeff Hague, P.O. Box 312, Milford, DE 19963.
