George Richard Lezius ’47
George Richard Lezius ’47, Tu’50, died on September 21, 2014, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born October 28, 1925, in Shaker Heights, Ohio, where he attended University School. He joined the class as a civilian in 1943. His college career was interrupted by two years in the Army, where he served in New Guinea and the Philippines. He returned to major in economics, play piano with the Green Collegians and graduate in 1948. He went on to graduate from Tuck Business School in 1950. From 1964 to 1978 he was chairman of the board of directors of Lezius-Hiles, a major printing firm in Cleveland. He served as chairman of the board of Printing Industries of America, a 12,000-member trade association, and in 1985 he was named Graphic Arts Man of the Year. He served on the board of directors of Western Reserve Life Assurance Co. of Ohio, which he helped found. For 20 years he was a board member of A.L. Garber Co., a large printing firm in Ashland, Ohio. In retirement he returned to playing the piano with jazz groups at various clubs and restaurants in the Cleveland area. He enjoyed playing hockey and golf. He served on the Alumni Council from 1982 to 1985 and as president of the regional club as well as a national research development program screener from 1989 to 1990.
