George Francis Rambour III ’52

George Francis Rambour III ’52 passed away on May 11, 2014, at home in Columbus, Nebraska. George was born March 13, 1930, in Columbus and lived his entire life there. He was a fifth-generation Columbus native and graduated from Columbus High School in 1948. At Dartmouth he was a member of Beta Theta Pi and Dragon. He also was a member of the varsity football team. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, mostly at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, George returned to Columbus and joined his father at Rambour Realty, where he was employed until his death. The firm provided services as land brokers, professional farm managers and insurance brokers. George was active in the community serving on many boards, including the city council for two terms. He was also a director of a local bank he helped found. In 1957 he married Lenore Winkelman, a local. He enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, hunting and following his grandchildren in their activities. George is survived by Lenore, son George (and wife Lynne), daughter Michele, son Michael (and wife Cheryl), daughter Renee (and husband Donald), nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
