George Ehinger Jr. ’45
George Ehinger Jr. ’45 passed away peacefully on April 21 in Wilton, Connecticut. George found true love in his life, first with Marilyn (deceased in 1993), his wife of 40 years with whom he had three children. He then entered a devoted relationship with Beth, his companion of more than 17 years, until her passing in October 2011. He is survived by daughter Ruth and son-in-law Bill; son George III and daughter-in-law Tamie; son Richard; brothers Robert, Paul and Nelson; and grandchildren Will and Eve. George grew up in Dover, Delaware, and graduated from Dover High School. He then attended Northfield/Mount Hermon School before earning and a B.S. from Dartmouth and the Thayer School of Engineering in 1945. He was an engineer and vice president for Dorr-Oliver for 40 years. He joined Dorr-Oliver straight from college, and rose through the ranks from junior and senior sales positions to group vice president, responsible for sales exceeding $100 million and more than 1,000 employees. After retiring from Dorr-Oliver he became owner/president of Winslow Manufacturing in Wallingford, Connecticut, for 20 years. He had a strong and lasting impact on his community and his church. A member of Zion’s Hill United Methodist Church for 48 years, he was a leader, trustee and former finance chairman, involved in all aspects of the church. His most visible role at Zion’s Hill was as organizer of the enormously popular George’s Fish Pondo at the annual Strawberry Festival, where he made sure everyone was a winner.
