George Blake Johnson ’52

George Blake Johnson ’52, M.D., formerly of Easton and Fairfield, Connecticut, died December 22, 2011, at the Jewish Home in Fairfield after a lengthy illness. He was born in Boston on July 26, 1930. George attended Framingham (Massachusetts) High School. He graduated from Dartmouth with a combined degree in chemistry and zoology. The following year he graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and received his M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine in 1955. George did his internship in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, from 1955 to 1956 and then served from 1956 to 1958 in the Army Medical Corps in France, he attained the rank of captain. Following the service he completed his residency in internal medicine at Dartmouth-affiliated hospitals in Hanover from 1958 to 1961. A dedicated professional, George cared for many area residents from 1961 until his retirement from private practice in 1999. He was on the staffs of St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport Hospital and St. Joseph’s Manor, specializing in internal medicine and geriatrics. George was an active sailor as a member of Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, Connecticut, and a passionate skier, spending much of his free time in the winter skiing with his family in Vermont. George was also an active member of the local Dartmouth club, having served as president from 1983 to 1985. His sons Andrew and David, their spouses, one sister and four grandchildren survive him.
