George Albert vonPeterffy ’52

George Albert vonPeterffy ’52 passed away on June 22, 2012, in Odenthal, Germany, the city where he lived for many years. George was born in New York City on December 17, 1929, and came to Dartmouth from Elmhurst, New York, a graduate of Newtown (New York) High School. At Dartmouth he majored in international relations, and was president of the International Relations Club and a member of the Undergraduate Council, Dartmouth Outing Club and German Outing Club. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army for two years and then attended and graduated with an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1957. George had a very interesting and successful career that included two stints teaching at the Harvard Business School, international management responsibilities at Kidder, Peabody and GTE, public service as a deputy assistant secretary of state in the early 1970s, consulting in Europe and the Middle East, and ownership of several small businesses in Europe and North America. He maintained homes both in Germany and Greenwich, Connecticut, and spent his most recent years in Europe. He was also an avid sportsman. George is survived by his second wife, Ulrike, whom he married in 1976. He is also survived by children Alexandra, Walter, Ferdinand and Anouschka and by at least 12 grandchildren. His oldest son, George, passed away on July 17, 2012, in North Carolina.
