Gary H. Mansur ’51

Gary H. Mansur ’51, a longtime contributor to his class and community, died on May 12, 2014, in his favorite place in the world, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Gary had a lifelong love of the Cape, spending summers there as a boy and vacationing there often in the years since. He and his wife, Marge, moved to Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, full-time in 2005. He and his family never tired of the place, delighting in the birds and the conservation land surrounding their home. Dartmouth and his class were other parts of his life that gave him greatest pleasure. Known to his classmates as “Mugs,” he served as head agent for the class from 1954 to 1956 and as alumni class president from 1956 to 1961. He received the John Mason Trophy for his distinguished performance as class agent. As an undergraduate he was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Interfraternity Council. He majored in English. He served in the U.S. Army as a language specialist for three years following graduation. Writing was another passion, dating back to Gary’s early years as editor of his high school paper in Leominster, Massachusetts. His professional career was devoted to communications, especially related to business and finance. He told the stories of the birth and dramatic growth of such industries as aerospace, healthcare and investment management. As a creative writer for pleasure he enjoyed composing short stories. Gary is survived by Marge, three children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
