Frederick C. Chandler ’51
Frederick C. Chandler ’51, whose full life included active involvement with family, business and his community—as well as a healthy portion of just plain fun—died in Delray Beach, Florida, on March 23. Family was the centerpiece of Fred’s life. He and his wife, Jane, raised four children and delighted in their eight grandchildren. Family golf outings, beach vacations and celebrations marked by creative games and poetry all brought endless pleasure. Fred’s business career spanned 50 years and included senior positions in the industrial fastener business, especially in sales and marketing management. He served as president of National Screw and Manufacturing Co. in Cleveland, Ohio; vice president of Illinois Tool Works in Chicago; and owner/chief executive of Chandler Sales Co., a manufacturers’ representative organization, in Chicago. His community activities included board memberships or other volunteer leadership roles with Salvation Army, YMCA, Junior Achievement, United Way and Booth Memorial Hospital in Cleveland and Chicago. He served as president of Skokie Country Club near his home in Winnetka, Illinois. He wintered in Florida, where he was a member of St. Andrews Club and the Country Club of Florida. Fred was a native of Cleveland and attended the University School there. At Dartmouth he majored in economics and was a member of Beta Theta Pi.
