Edward J. Malonis ’52

Edward J. Malonis ’52 died on July 26, 2015, at home. Ed was born on March 1, 1930, in Lynn, Massachusetts, and graduated from Lynn Classical High School. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1952, majoring in history. He was a member of Theta Chi. He then got his master’s at the Tufts Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy before entering the Navy, attending officer candidate school in Newport, Rhode Island. He served in the Navy for three years as a legal and operations officer in Japan and the Mediterranean. After the Navy he joined the U.S. Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. He married Mary Huggins in 1960 and together they moved to Milan, Italy, where he worked in the U.S. Bureau of Economic Affairs. In 1963 they returned to the United States, where Ed worked for Esso in government affairs. He was then managing editor at Petroleum Intelligence Weekly and, in 1970, moved to Conoco, where worked for 19 years as director of international government affairs. He was based in New York, Connecticut, Delaware and Houston. Ed and Mary returned to the New York area in 1987 and he worked at Agip Petroleum as director of government and industry affairs until retiring in 1999. Upon retirement Ed and Mary moved to Mashpee, Massachusetts. Ed is survived by Mary, daughter Tracy and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by son John.
