Deborah Bernstein ’93
Deborah Bernstein ’93 of New York City passed away on May 10 following a prolonged battle with breast cancer. Deborah loved Dartmouth. It was a transformative experience for her, and the College remained in her heart ever since her undergraduate years. She met her husband of more than 10 years, David Miller ’92, on campus along with countless lifelong friends. Deborah graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with an A.B. in economics. As an undergraduate she was a member of Fire & Skoal, an undergraduate advisor, and served on the Undergraduate Council and as a leadership agent for the class of ’93. After graduation Deborah joined Goldman Sachs, where she returned after earning her M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business. She was a venture capital partner at Pequot Capital in San Francisco and then New York. At Aquiline Capital she was a private equity partner. Her obituary on Bloomberg was titled, “Tragic Early Death of Wall Street Star.” It wasn’t just on Wall Street that Deborah was a star. Her friends described her wry sense of humor, warm smile and genuine care for others—even as her health was deteriorating. She loved cats, summited Mount Kilimanjaro and completed two marathons. She was active in many charitable causes, including Lighthouse International, where she was a director and posthumously received its highest volunteer honor—the Winifred and Edith Holt Award. Deborah is survived by David, 7-month-old son Asher, her parents and stepsisters.
