David McMiller Rice ’40 of Whitefish, Montana, formerly of Sarasota, Florida, died August 23, 2009. He came to Dartmouth from Shorewood (Wisconsin) High School, majored in national problems and was a member of Theta Delta Chi and Forensic Union Debate. He also received a degree from New York University School of Retailing. During World War II he served as a lieutenant in the Navy Air Corps, teaching navigation at the training base in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dave retired in 1989 as the owner of Rice’s Town and Casual Wear, a women’s apparel store in Sarasota, Florida. He is survived by son Gregory and daughter-in-law Janet and daughter Cindy and son-in-law Bob. Dave was predeceased by his wife, Virginia.
