David Cummins Donaldson ’43

David Cummins Donaldson ’43 died January 15, 2014, at home in Orleans, Massachusetts. “Bing,” as he was always called, graduated from Johnson County High School in Buffalo, Wyoming, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, the debate team, the dramatics club and the tennis team. Bing also worked on the school paper and the yearbook. After graduating from Dartmouth in December 1942 Bing spent one term at Tuck before joining the Army Infantry. A Dartmouth man recruited him for the Office of Strategic Services and he spent the war maintaining radio contact with American agents behind the German lines in northern Europe. After the war Bing completed his Tuck degree and went to work for IBM selling data processing equipment in Manhattan. His assignments touched on marketing, administration and special industry sales. He retired in 1983. In 1952 Bing married Anne Luise Link. They spent their time between Scarsdale, New York, and their dearly loved cottage in Orleans on Cape Cod. At retirement they moved full time to Orleans. Bing spent much of his time fundraising for Dartmouth and served as head agent for his class. He was also a class officer on the executive committee and gift planning chair, among other important responsibilities. Bing was also loyal to his class of 1943; his enthusiasm and support will be missed. Bing is survived by his wife, Anne, his sons Alex ’79, Robert ’84 (and wife Carolyn Fraser ’86), David, Henry and William and 10 grandchildren.
