David Cheever Weld ’46

David Cheever Weld ’46 of Roseland, New Jersey, died September 9, 2009, at home. Dave’s father was a class of 1912. He came to Dartmouth from the Choate School in Wallingford, Connecticut. He served as an ensign in the Navy in the Pacific theater during WW II. He was a partner in Weld and Whitaker Wood Products Inc. and had worked for lumber wholesaler Lawrence R. McCoy Co. for 29 years. In 1984 he formed Weldco Wood Products Inc. of Caldwell, New Jersey, where he served as president until his retirement in 2002. He was a former member of the Essex Fells Country Club, where he served on the board of trustees, and was the men’s golf club champion in 1962. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jean; children Gail, David and Leslie and her husband, Jay; grandson Christopher; and nephew Robert Weld ’68.
