Clifford Llewellen Fitzgerald Jr. ’52
Clifford Llewellen Fitzgerald Jr. ’52 died of cancer on September 15, 2010, in New York City. His last residence was in Sanibel, Florida, but he spent most of his adult life in Greenwich, Connecticut. Cliff prepared for college at Deerfield Academy and graduated from Dartmouth with a major in chemistry-zoology. He was member of Psi Upsilon and Dragon. He lettered in lacrosse and was also a rugby player. After college he served four years in the U.S. Air Force as an all-weather jet interceptor pilot, retiring with the rank of captain. He then attended Harvard Business School and graduated with an M.B.A. with distinction in 1958. Cliff had a distinguished career in the investment banking business, first with Drexel Harriman Ripley, where he acted as a financial advisor to major corporate clients. He then became head of corporate finance at Donaldson Lufkin Jenrette, where he served for 15 years. This was followed by responsibility as director-investment banking at Credit Suisse/First Boston and, in his last challenge in the 1990s, he was a managing director at Meadowcroft Associates, a financial advisory firm. His client responsibilities covered a wide range of both domestic and international organizations. He is survived by his children, Clifford ’78, Alexandra, Keith, Hope and Heather, two sisters and six grandchildren.
