Class Note 1987

Issue

November-December 2026

Class Note 1987. I have received interesting news from classmates who are on the move, literally and figuratively.
After 30 years of living in Maine, Tim Foster and his wife, Stephanie Macdonald Foster ’85, have “repotted the plant” and moved to Bozeman, Montana. Tim writes, “After coming out to the Big Sky-Bozeman area since 1988 and volunteering for the Forest Service one summer, we were seduced by all things Mother Nature and traded one beautiful place for another. We spend as much time outdoors as we can—good medicine for today’s world! I’m still in close touch with the Mass Hall fourth-floor contingent of David Arnold (and Lisa Harvey ’90), Alan Forman, Ron Snow, and Faith Spurrier. None of us have been good reunion attendees, but we have agreed that if we are still above ground for our 50th, we will be there.”
Pam Haering says that after years working in the for-profit sector, she completed her master’s in education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and launched a nonprofit called EdAccess Lab in 2024. EdAccess is a capacity-building organization supporting nonprofits focused on creating pathways to higher education for first-generation, low-income students. The organization offers strategic planning, marketing, and tech services and plans to pilot convenings for leaders in the sector this coming spring. On the personal front, Pam and her husband, Randy, split their time between Park City, Utah, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Their twin daughters are happily working in L.A. and Boulder, Colorado.
Following many years in Manhattan and then a couple of years in West Palm Beach, Florida, David Huang and his husband, Henry Jacobowitz, have embraced a new chapter and recently bought a condo in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they have been spending more and more time.
“What I love most about PV is the everyday life,” says David. “The people we’ve met have been incredibly warm and welcoming, and we’ve really enjoyed getting to know the neighborhood and supporting local businesses. We shop at the mercados and neighborhood butcher shops, discover little family-run restaurants, and keep finding great places to eat—so much so that our biggest challenge may be fitting into our clothes! We feel safe, welcomed, and genuinely connected to the community and living here has given us a much more nuanced appreciation for the country and its people. We spend our days walking everywhere, exploring different neighborhoods, trying new restaurants, discovering local markets, and slowly learning that life doesn’t always have to be rushed.”
Tim Hartigan dropped me a line to let me know that classmate Mike Roy is running for election to the Vermont House of Representatives from the Addison-1 District. Mike has lived in the town of Middlebury since 2008 and at various times served as the library dean and chief information officer at Middlebury College. Best of luck, Mike!
