Class Note 1987. I have just returned from our very memorable 40th class reunion in Hanover. What a wonderful weekend full of laughter, friendship, and fun.
The highlights for me included a very wet 5-mile hike around the slope of Mount Moosilauke (skillfully led by John Gannon), really inspiring class TED Talks, an update on our “Peace Justice Respect” social justice group, a yummy lobster-steak lunch on Tuck Mall, a beautiful a cappella concert (also featuring ’86s and ’85s), and lovely dinners at the Bema and on the Rockefeller lawn.
We also held a class meeting, where our class elected new officers for the next five-year term. Elected were Tim Parker as president (taking over from the talented and tireless Tracey Salmon-Smith) and Anne Schnader and Julie Hubble as co-vice presidents (taking over from Tim Parker and Brendan Connell). Evan Azriliant and I apparently couldn’t bear to leave office, so we are continuing on as treasurer and secretary, respectively, for another term.
In between drinking plastic cupfuls of pinot grigio and snapping pics, I was able to jot down updates from several classmates.
Liza Rebetz-MacKinnon writes a column on outdoor adventures for her local newspaper, the Duxbury Clipper. She is in the process of moving to an antique house in Green Harbor, Massachusetts, which is located on a property that also features Daniel Webster’s fishing cottage.
Tampa, Florida, resident Lance Meyerson continues his practice as an ear, nose, and throat physician. He enjoys going to the beach and bike riding.
Steve Getsiv is an international lumber trader. His company, Nova, which he started in 2005, specializes in exotic and rare woods from around the world. Steve is an avid cyclist and still competes in triathlons.
University at Albany (New York) professor Eric Stern was recently appointed director of the school’s AI and society research center. He enjoys riding motorcycles for fun.
Martina Roth is one year into retirement and actively planning adventures. In September she will be taking a three-week trip to Austria and in November she will be going to Munich, Germany, with Sandy Sloane to watch the New England Patriots play football against the Detroit Lions.
Kathleen Carr is excited that her boat will be going into the water soon. It is berthed in Boston Harbor, near the famous Barking Crab restaurant. Kathleen currently practices intellectual property litigation and is vice chair of the practice group at Fennemore law firm.
The reunion closed with an emotional memorial service led by Crystal Crawford and featuring beautiful songs performed by Gospel Choir alumni, friends, and family. At the service we learned of the passing of two classmates whose deaths had not yet been reported to the College. Peter Van Genderen passed on April 10, 2025, in Denver; Karin Clough, a resident of New Hampshire, passed on June 10. We miss them and hold them both in our hearts.
