Class Note 2001

Issue

July-August 2026

Class Note 2001. Hello, fellow ’01s! If I have my dates right, classmates should be reading this column just after attending our 25th reunion. To those who attended, I hope you had a great time and enjoyed reconnecting with the school and each other. To those who could not make it, I hope you are still finding ways to connect that bring you joy.
We do have some updates to share that came in during the Destiny’s Child/Wyclef Jean solicitation a few months back. Derek Lee, who has been teaching in the English department at Wake Forest since 2020, recently published his first book, Parascientific Revolutions: The Science and Culture of the Paranormal. Published by the University of Minnesota Press, Derek describes his work as following “the oddball development of telepathy, government parascience programs, and other supernatural phenomena during the last century.” Laura Choi Stuart recently recorded and released Rituals, a solo album of songs by Charles Ives, Reynaldo Hahn, and William Bolcom with pianist Tanya Blaich. The Bolcom song cycle, titled “Briefly It Enters,”is the centerpiece of the album, comprising nine settings of poems by N.H. poet laureate Jane Kenyon. Robbie Barbero wrote in with this update: “In 2025 I stepped down from my role as chief business officer at Ceres Nanosciences to join Renaissance Philanthropy, where I’m developing a thesis-driven, philanthropic fund to catalyze the development of a low-cost, easy-to-use blood lead test for the 800 million kids worldwide who have lead poisoning.” Finally, congratulations to David Tatkow, who was recently elected to the board of selectmen in Wilton, Connecticut.
