Class Note 1987

Issue

May-June 2026

Class Note 1987. I recently had a chance to catch up with Sharon Grayzel. Sharon is largely retired from veterinary practice and has been focusing her energies on writing. She has completed her first novel, a work of literary fiction, and is now at the stage of hiring an agent. Sharon has lived in Portland, Oregon, for the past 30 years with her husband, Jeff Dodson, whom she met playing bridge. They have two daughters who are both graduate students pursuing Ph.D.s in math. In her free time Sharon skis, knits, goes mushroom hunting, and takes care of her beloved 18-year-old dog Stev.
Sharon stays in touch with Lisa Schwartz Weiss, who has a vacation home in Washington state, and periodically they get together and enjoy playing board games. Sharon also sees Melissa Duarte Phillips, who lives in Rhode Island and comes to visit her three daughters living in Oregon. Sharon also goes on periodic hiking trips with Barbara (Strandling) Alkalay.
Michael Drescher was recently confirmed as a justice of the Vermont Supreme Court. Michael has practiced law in Vermont since the mid-1990s and became an assistant U.S. attorney there in 2002. Starting in 2023 Michael began serving as first assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Vermont and ultimately served as the U.S. attorney for the district, where he supervised the U.S. attorney’s civil, criminal, and administrative divisions.
Faith Rivers James has recently been inducted into South Carolina’s Charleston Business Magazine Hall of Fame. Faith is currently serving as the executive director of the Coastal Conservation League, which advocates to protect the natural environment of South Carolina’s coast.
I hope to see many of you at our 40th class reunion in Hanover, which will take place June 18-21! (It’s actually our 39th, but who’s counting?) Reunion chairs Tim Parker, Gregg Rippey, and Tracey Salmon-Smith have been hard at working planning an awesome get-together with lots of free time for mingling and reconnecting. We will be joined on campus by the classes of ’85 and ’86. Check your emails or our class website for more details and registration information!
