Class Note 1997

Class Note 1997. Congratulations to Christie Jackson, the new curator and director of exhibitions at the Concord Museum in Concord, Massachusetts.
She was recently profiled in The Concord Bridge, where she talked about her path to a career as a curator. While studying aquatic and marine biology at the College, she grew intrigued by the technology allowing people to travel on waterways, which led to an interest in ship design and interiors. From there, she told the paper, it was “a natural evolution to explore material culture and historic houses.”
Christie noted she approaches her work as a curator “with a very interdisciplinary lens.” She holds master’s degrees from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the University of Delaware Winterthur program in American material culture. She told The Bridge the Concord Museum “is a place for dialogue, learning, and gathering within a community. That dialogue can be emotional, beautiful, contemplative, or unexpected—and sometimes all of those things. I feel very happy to be a part of the team here.”
Lloyd Fass, our class representative on the Alumni Council, recently attended the fall meeting and had much to report. One of the key takeaways is the College’s emphasis on improving career access with the new Center for Career Design. Funded internships have increased by 350 percent in just one year with the goal for every student to be able to pursue an internship, especially those crucial unpaid opportunities that can shape a student’s path but may not be possible without financial support. Lloyd also noted the College is leaning into AI by exploring how students and faculty can benefit from it, the creation of courses to study it, and internships with it. For more on all the takeaways from the Alumni Council meeting, check your inboxes for Lloyd’s excellent email summary.
Finally, a big shoutout to our class for our fantastic performance in the Forever Green Challenge that ended in December. The class of 1997 topped the ’90s leaderboard with 71 unique donors, earning the second-highest participation overall, just behind the class of 2007, with 94 donors. Overall, the Dartmouth College Fund raised more than $5.2 million from 2,941 donors during the month-long challenge.
Take care, everyone, and please send in your news.
