Class Note 2014
Issue
January-February 2024
Happy New Year, ’14s! I’m writing this just after Homecoming. I hope some of you were able to attend; here in London we celebrated as we always do, by constructing a small cardboard model of the bonfire and lighting it in the back garden. I must say that what started as a toilet paper tube topped with a cutout number “17” when I missed Homecoming on my Spain foreign study program has become quite professional through the years, evolving into a complex system of notched cardboard slabs that fit together like flattened Lincoln Logs. Get in touch next year if you find yourself far from the Green—maybe I’ll offer tutorials in exchange for updates!
Meanwhile in Hanover, during Homecoming four ’14s were inducted into the Wearers of the Green, Dartmouth’s athletics hall of fame. Aditi Misra, Michael Klein, Trevy Wing, and Malcolm Leverett earned their place among the Wearers as members of the 2014 national championship club fencing team. They join teammates Nate Utterback, Stuart Ghafoor, Ivan Antoniv, Gaby Stern, Peter Horak, and Scott Brookes, who were named Wearers of the Green in 2019. Peter and Scott were in Hanover joining in celebrating the new inductees. Scott recently returned to coach the team for the second time, after leading the fencers to another national championship win as coach in 2018.
This past September Christine Kim was spotted at the Dartmouth Entrepreneurs Forum in San Francisco speaking from her experience as a consumer investor at Greylock in a panel on the “Next Generation of Investors.”
Congrats to Jayne Caron, who will be starting a complex family planning fellowship at Stanford in July, after finishing her current obstetrics/gynecology residency at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles.
In wedding news, Diana Ming married Jonathan Gold on June 3 at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The occasion was marked with a traditional Chinese lion dance the night before the ceremony, which was officiated by Victor Hollenberg. And on September 15 Holly Wakeman married Ben Campbell in Charlotte, Vermont.
Finally, I have two new members of the extended 2014 family (and potential members of the class of 2046?) to announce. Alison Levens Zhao and Dong Zhao ’13, along with big sister Laney, welcomed Rylie Brooke Zhao on September 6 in New York. And across the country in San Francisco, Talia Weiss and Rob Rein ’12 welcomed Caleb Joseph Rein on September 19, joining brother Wesley.
This year marks 10 years since we graduated, and around 800 of you have never been featured in the Class Notes! Job changes, weddings, moves, babies, graduations, awards, competitions, projects, even new hobbies—whatever you’ve been up to during the past decade, your classmates would love to hear about it. Please send your updates either to me directly or to dartmouth2014classnotes@gmail.com!
